I have just returned from my class reunion. We were kept busy with many activities which were quite enjoyable.
My home town has a rather interesting background. In 1955, around 9:27 PM a very destructive F-5 tornado hit. There were 19 people killed along with 1 person northeast of town. The glass factory was destroyed as were other prominent businesses. The whole East side of town was destroyed or blown completely away. In addition to that, the river overflowed due to the heavy rainfall. I was very young at the time and had recently moved to the West side of town. The storm cellar we took shelter in was approximately 2 block from the hospital. I remember well the sounds of sirens and the call for help for all the injured. I believe this is why I am a storm spotter now. Following is a story regarding this tornado.
